You have probably heard me say this before, but I cannot emphasize it enough. I want you to throw out the limiting belief that says this: “I cannot start my business until I have everything ready and in order.”
Because you see, I’ve never met a single successful person in all my years of sales coaching who told me, “I started with a plan, worked it, and everything turned out exactly as I anticipated in exactly the time I thought it would take, so now I am successful!”
Have you ever heard a success story like that? Me either! It’s even a little absurd to assume that success happens that way! And yet too often, I find myself talking to people who have this limiting belief – and they don’t even realize it.
They think they need to:
- Have their website finished and polished
- Have their business cards ready to hand out at a moment’s notice
- Have their marketing plan already in place
- Have their bookkeeping all ready
- Have a vision board in place
- Network with a certain number of people ahead of time.
Now, please don’t misunderstand – I’m not trying to devalue the importance of having a plan. Because the tools of running a business include a plan – and you simply cannot double your sales without direction!
Business evolves. Situations change. Client’s needs change. Or business owners find themselves in a unique position of being able to meet a different need than the one they originally intended to!
And to be successful, you need to adapt.
And here is the key: You cannot prepare ahead of time to adapt – that happens once you get started.
