Now that 2008 is in full swing, it is important to step outside of your business for a minute and rate your progress for the year. I challenge you to pull out your projections and goals and evaluate whether or not you are taking the best steps to reach them.

As a Business Coach, one of the main challenges I see people running into is staying on track with their goals. Many times we set goals, and then set them aside, only to pull them out and dust them off at the end of the year when it is too late. Those people who review their goals daily or weekly tend to stay on track and focused throughout the year and also have the highest goal achievement rates. How often do you review your goals?

The Law of Attraction is now talked about frequently in the world of business. Many of my clients want to discuss it to determine how it can help them in their business. There is a simple way to apply the Law of Attraction that can help you reach your goals. First, you need to set your goals, which you have already done for 2008. Once your goals are set, it is important to listen for ideas that just "pop" into your mind. That is actually the Law of Attraction at work. In other words, once you have your goals set, if you are listening, you will receive INSPIRED and INTENTIONAL ideas that will just come to you. The key is to then act on them.

So, I ask you, "What are you going to do about it?" Since you have set your goals, you have probably been receiving many good ideas that just seem to magically appear in your mind. The key, when you hear them, is to write them down and act on them. Inspired and intentional ideas come to you because they are the ideas that will help propel your business forward... if you are listening!

Inspired Action:
1. Keep a notebook next to your bed, on your desk and with you at all times. When a great idea comes to you, write it down!
2. Then, spend time thinking about the idea and figure out how you can implement it. That idea came to you for a reason!

Statistics suggest that we have 60,000 new ideas that pass through our minds every single day. However, we don't write them down, so we forget most of them. Decide right now that you will begin to write those ideas down...and TAKE ACTION!

This past year has been a whirlwind! I KNEW that January 1, 2007 would be a day that changed my life. And it did. It was the day I opened Studio 700.

Looking back, I realize that I had no idea how I would achieve the goals I had set, but I kept the faith that the path would be laid out for me. I suppose my success started with several failures, but that didn't stop me. I had been a hairstylist for 28 years and found myself in the position of just going through the motions ever day. To others I looked successful and most days I told myself I was happy, but I was empty. I was no longer in control of my career; was working for someone else, and felt very limited by executing their ideals and philosophies, instead of my own.

I was one of those people who thought I was forward thinking and brave. I fooled myself into believing that if I ever went out on my own I would be successful and that my belief would be enough. Then, I had a moment of realization. I realized that I feared failure and it wasn't just enough to think, "Ehhh....I could do it if I wanted to." My insecurities were holding me back. This journey of realization started with "stepping out of my box" and facing my fears.

I took the opportunity to try out for a Trainer position for Eufora International, a hair care product company. I went to "boot camp" to learn how to present myself and educate others. To my amazement, I got the job and found that educating others and public speaking was something I loved and was good at! I learned more about myself in one weekend than I had in 10 years. It felt good to give back by teaching and helping. It was ironic the more I taught and shared, the happier and more fulfilled I became. I learned new things, reaffirmed things I already knew and realized I had so much more to share and give.

That was when it hit me. I knew I had to open my own salon. Once I realized I was being propelled towards this goal, I decided to just let it happen. That sounds passive, but it is absolutely not. Believe me, a lot of hard work went into planning and executing this new salon. But I hung onto the vision, the end goal, and then situations and people presented themselves to me.

Once I decided to put my fears aside and move ahead, the universe opened up and my plans took on a life of their own! I acquired a wonderful business partner, Terri Modena, whose ideas, philosophies and love of our industry matched my own. We found a wonderful location and resourceful construction friends helped us build and execute our vision. We hired a talented and creative team, who support our dedication to care for our clients with a "servant's heart". The vision was born!

Looking back, one source of inspiration for me has always been quotations. They reaffirm what I already know or give me an "Ah Ha! moment". Over the past year, several quotes inspired me and kept me going:

It was apparent I was searching for confirmation of what I was about to undertake. I now know those quotes were my stepping stones, taking me down the path of faith as it unfolded. I also know my work is not done, but I am inspired on a daily basis to help others realize their potential and in turn force me to realize my own. Whenever I have doubts or fears about being in business for myself or wonder if I have done the right thing, I will refer to these quotations. They remind me that once you face your fears, have a strong vision of where you want to go, and work hard to get there, you cannot be stopped.
