Business
Networking Networking is a very important part of growing your business. It allows you to connect with new prospects and old contacts in the hopes that you will build a rapport with the goal of generating new business leads. While networking is important, it can also be very time consuming. You need to take time out of your already busy schedule to meet for breakfast, lunch or an after-hours mixer in order to make these connections. This is why you need to make the best of each networking event you attend. Remember, the purpose of networking is not to sell; it is only to establish rapport to a level that will allow you to follow up with your new, or old, acquaintance later on. Building a simple, yet positive relationship at any networking event, leads you to the opportunity for the follow up phone call, email or even a business lunch. Potential clients want to see how you operate in a social setting, such as a mixer or ribbon cuttings. This gives them the opportunity to see how you operate and get to know the “real” you. They are hoping to find out what type of person you are and if you are the type of person they want to do business with. A good attitude and communication skills are what most people look for in the person they want to work with. Don’t waste your time going to an event if you’re not going to put your best foot forward. Always use your networking time effectively by presenting a “can-do” attitude along with confidence and authority! Eydie Stumpf is a Personal & Virtual Assistant and owner of Eydie’s Errands.
