Simply Organized - Mail & How to Contain
It
We all have incoming mail, business and
personal. Many of us glance through the daily stack and if it
doesn’t demand our immediate attention set it back down,
usually with the previous day or day’s mail. Over a short
period of time you have a serious stack of paperwork to deal
with. For some people just seeing that growing pile can induce
stressful feelings. Let me offer you a few simple solutions
that will help you avoid this problem.
The first step
is to take 5-10 minutes each day to go through the mail. If
possible do this next to your shredder or trash can.
The second step is to sort the mail, your goal is to
minimize the number of times you are touching that piece of
paper. Sort into the following categories:
Junk
Mail: trash or shred. All credit card/loan offers should
be shredded- identity theft is a growing problem and this is
all the information they need to ruin your credit.
Bills: open all incoming bills, throw away
those annoying and usually worthless inserts, and place the
bill with the return envelope in a designated spot. (This
could be a binder with pockets or a hanging file, whatever
works as long as it is where all your bills are kept).
Magazines/Newspapers/any Reading Material:
again have a designated spot where these materials go. In the
office it could be a separate tray or file at home it could be
a basket next to your favorite chair.
Calendar
Items (meetings, invitations, etc.): Enter the date and
pertinent information right then on your calendar, don’t
forget to include the phone number. If you need to keep the
invitation for reference, such as directions, place it in a
file marked accordingly, otherwise, throw the paper away.
By having a quick and simple system for dealing with
the daily influx of mail you will eliminate the clutter both
physically and psychologically.

Get Inspired! This Month's Success Story - Alisa
Griffis |

Write Well, Write Now is the first online
writing- coaching corporation in the United States. Our
Mission: To help individuals meet their personal and
professional writing goals. We are just two years old, but we
already have contracts with the United States Government, the
U.S. Department of the Navy, businesses, universities, and
private individuals.
In April 2004 I was a classroom
teacher working on a Ph.D. in Education. My fondest desire was
to be a stay-at-home mom for my children during their teenage
years. The idea hit me in the middle of the night and with the
blessings of my husband, I quit my job as a teacher and became
an entrepreneur. I was incorporated by May, found my gifted
web programmer that same month, and dove in head first. For
the next 12 months I wrote over 2,000 pages of lessons! I also
found an outstanding advertising firm (woman owned), and
worked 8 - 12 hours each day all the while finishing my Ph.D.
I spent plenty of time with my family, too – it's only sleep
that I lacked! Last year I topped my writing output, churning
out over 3,000 pages of text.
I could not have done
this feat without the support of my husband, Griff. Cheryl
Pirih, my advertising agent, was also staunchly supportive and
gave me countless pep talks when I grew weary. She gave me
ideas, took amazing photographs, created the corporate logo,
worked with the colors and "look" of the website, and has been
a cheerleader from the moment we met.
The thing that
has kept me going during these wild and crazy start-up years
is the encouragement that I've gotten from those around me. I
created an entirely new vision in the teaching of writing:
one- on-one online mentorship. In the end – that's what I've
received from friends and other business owners – one-on-one
mentorship. It's been my key to success, and certainly the way
I intend to give back to the world of business: By mentoring
others as they reach for their dreams.

"Somehow I can't
believe that there are any heights that can't be scaled by a
man who knows the secrets of making dreams come true. This
special secret, it seems to me, can be summarized in four C's.
They are curiosity, confidence, courage, and constancy, and
the greatest of these is confidence. When you believe in a
thing, believe in it all the way, implicitly and
unquestionable." Walt Disney
